According to the information available, India is actively pursuing the development and implementation of 6G technology. To create a vision, mission, and goals for 6G, the Indian Department of Telecommunications established the Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG-6G), which includes representatives from various ministries/departments, research and development organisations, academia, standardisation bodies, telecom service providers, and industry . India has also started the Bharat 6G initiative, which intends to locate and finance research and the introduction of 6G technology in the nation .

India is working on a locally built 6G technology and plans to introduce it by the end of 2023 or early 2024, according to Minister for Communication Ashwini Vaishnaw . India's ambition to bring out high-speed 6G communication services by 2030 is highlighted in the vision paper for Bharat 6G, which was recently presented . In order to promote growth and digital inclusion for its inhabitants, the government wants to position India as a worldwide leader in 6G .

Bharat 6G

1. Background:

1. In order for India to be a leader in 6G technology and manufacturing by 2030, the Indian government is promoting next-generation 6G research and innovation throughout the nation. The government is ensuring that India not only becomes an atmanirbhar in this cutting-edge and essential technology, but also a significant contributor to the global good through an all-nation approach that involves industry, start-ups, academia, research laboratories, standardisation bodies, and the government.

2To develop the vision, mission, and goals for the 6G as well as a roadmap and action plans for 6G in India, the Department of Telecommunications established the Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG-6G) on November 1, 2021. Members of the TIG-6G come from various Ministries/Departments, research and development organisations, academic institutions, standardisation bodies, telecom service providers, and industry. The TIG-6G then established six Task Forces on Multi-Disciplinary Innovative Solutions, Multiplatform Next Generation Networks, Spectrum for Next Generation Requirements, Devices, International Standards Contribution, and Funding Research and Development with representatives from business, academia, R&D organisations, and government as members.
3 . The Six Task Forces under TIG-6G discussed many facets of upcoming telecom platforms and technologies. They emphasised the need to contribute our innovations to global standards and ensure interoperability, the need for adequate funding to carry out the Bharat 6G Mission, the device ecosystem that will support these innovations, and spectrum management, which will enable the current and upcoming explosion in wireless communications.

  • 2. Constitution of Task Force:

  • The Technological Innovation Group on 6G has created a Bharat 6G Vision Paper based on the reports of the Six Task Forces.

  • 3.Bharat 6G Vision Statement:
  • The Bharat 6G Vision Statement is as follows:

"Strategy, develop, and roll out 6G network technologies that offer global, intelligent, and secure connection for high-quality living"
The Affordable, Sustainable, and Ubiquitous guiding principles of the 6G Vision. The national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat is perfectly integrated with the vision for 6G, which aims to enable every Indian to achieve atmanirbhar (self-reliance) in all aspects of their lives. At the same time, it guarantees that India assumes its proper position in the world as a top provider of cutting-edge telecom technology and solutions that are cost-effective and benefit the whole globe. Hence, the Aazadi ka Amrit Kaal in India coincides well with the 6G Vision.

  • 4. Bharat 6G Mission:

  • We will draw on the ecosystem of research and startups to contribute innovations and fresh perspectives. There will be sufficient financial assistance arrangements. There will be two stages to the Mission's completion:

  • Phase 1 from 2023-2025 (2 years)
    Phase 2 from 2025-2027 (2 years)
